DEFINING SUCCESS

For this project, success will be changing the way that people think about public space. This will include an expanded definition of where public space is, physically, and how we use that space.  Even today, President Elect Obama has announced a new public works program that will invest in the type of infrastructure that we see at the narrows, highways and bridges. With such a concentration of resources going there, what else can those places do for us as a public? How can they serve us not only to connect us geographically, but connect us emotionally to each other and to our location?  If these proposals and models can successfully challenge and expand the role of civic building projects, than on one level they have succeeded. If they are able to insert themselves into a local or national dialogue about how media can be used constructively in public, then they have succeeded on a second level.  This can involve presentations at city hall, publication, or acknowledgements from outside the design field of the worth of public media in public locations.
